| POLARIS WIKIA

Personality:
positive traits >>>

( passionate )
While Lorna cares deeply for her cause of mutant rights, it stems from her passion for her fellow mutants. Lorna cares deeply for others, especially of her own kind. She's empathetic to the struggles her people go through, especially young mutants left alone. She has both suffered through many of these struggles herself and witnessed families torn apart and crying as they never see their loved ones again. These things strike Lorna to her core, and she wants for nothing more than to be that support to them, to make a better world for mutants, and to simply be a source they can rely upon. Lorna's passion extends to her family and friends as well. When Lorna cares, she cares with all her heart. She can be strongly empathetic towards others, and while she can be a bit hard-headed about solutions it all comes from a good place.

( steadfast )
All her life, Lorna has had to deal with hardships towards herself and those she cares about. The death of her parents, the legacy of her true father, and the burden left on her by the X-Men have shaped Lorna into a strong woman who can stand on her own two feet. As a leader of the mutant underground, Lorna has been forced to step up from the sidelines of protests and petty fights on the streets. As a leader, Lorna is willing to make decisions that others find difficult to make. She has the strength to stand by her cause and her decisions, fighting for what she believes is right. Lorna has an inner compass that doesn't waver, and when she sets her mind to anything she can make it happen.

negative traits >>>

( stubborn )
While Lorna tends to be a strong leader, she can be stubborn to the point of being hard-headed at times. Feeling the weight of leadership and the balance of mutant rights on her shoulders, Lorna can often dig her heels in when it comes to causes that are important to her. She is known to back down when she doesn't feel extremely strongly about a cause. She may hold shorter-term grudges for things she feels somewhat strongly about, but when it comes to things she feels certain about she can't be swayed by anyone. This can lead to fighting, even separate paths of doing things, and culminates when she's willing to split the mutant underground entirely to take mutants to her cause.

( rebellious )
Sort of playing off her stubbornness, Lorna can often be rebellious for the sake of it. When she gets angry and holds grudges, she intentionally sticks to her side and can even cause problems from it. Most importantly, Lorna has spent her entire life trying to run from her father's legacy simply to spite him. She avoided joining the X-Men for so long to avoid getting in too deeply with mutants like her father did, and then after joining their cause she deliberately tried to avoid doing things that were too similar to how he would work. Lorna doesn't like to be told what to do, and she will often try to do the opposite of that.

( short-sighted )
With her stubborn behaviors and rebellious attitude, Lorna can sometimes think of the more immediate reactions to her actions, and ignore long-term problems. More accurately, she acknowledges that something long-term will happen but refuses to acknowledge what. In her mind, she can keep manipulating the short-term to her advantage in the long-term. This can cause her to take great risks and leave the rest to what comes next. One such risk is stepping out of hiding to fight police in a fit of anger after Marcos' has been attacked and ends up in jail for her efforts. Another example is tearing a senator's plane from the sky, killing him and other passengers for the short-term goal of saving mutantkind from hidden agendas. These are all things she's willing to take the short-term risks of, but often disregards the long-term effects.

other >>

( bipolar disorder )
Lorna has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a fact that she doesn't like to talk about often. She hates the term "crazy" and gets defensive when accused of being crazy. Currently, Lorna seems to be unmedicated but highly aware of her disorder. She's very self-aware and able to recognize what an upswing and a downswing feel like to her. When questioned about it, she'll speak honestly to those she trusts about how she's feeling with regards to her disorder, but she hates to define herself by it.

Powers and Abilities:
MAGNETIC MANIPULATION > At a basic level, Lorna is able to manipulate ferromagnetic metals. This gives her an ability to move metals in any way she wishes. While she had a limited range once before, her pregnancy has enhanced her ability to a greater power and range. As such, so long as Lorna can react, she can use her abilities near instantly. This means she's able to stop bullets, and even shoot them back. She has strength enough to tear a moving plane apart, as well, though it takes a tremendous amount of effort on her part. Through manipulation of metals, Lorna is also able to make herself fly. This is only possible if she's wearing metals on her body, which she does often ever since she made this discovery at 16. Due to her ability to manipulate ferromagnetic metals, she's also able to sense where these metals may be found. This means she can also sometimes sense people nearby ( with concentrated effort ) due to trace metals in their systems.

ELECTROMAGNETISM > Using magnetic fields, Lorna can manipulate electric currents. She can force currents to reverse, surge and burst, and create EMP fields that take out electronics in the vicinity. She can also tamper with walkie-talkie and cellphone frequencies. As with sensing ferromagnetic metals, Lorna is able to sense electrical currents, including electromagnetic pulses in living creatures nervous systems ( again, with great concentration. )

AFFECTED POWERS > In canon, Lorna's powers have been affected by her pregnancy. While all the lines of her powers vs. the baby's assistance haven't been drawn clearly, the biggest difference seems to be Lorna's range and need to strain herself. Early in the show, Lorna can't affect a drone that is too high in the sky and outside her range. At the end of the series, she can tear a plane from the sky ( though it was taking off, so not fully in the air, but higher than the drone had been ). She's also shown to be able to move several large metal poles with ease early on, but later during the pregnancy shown to shut a large vault door with just the flick of her wrist. She could do the latter with a lot of strain and concentration, but she remarks that with the baby she's able to do it at that distance with just a flick. While she will have her pregnancy temporarily removed, the effect of the pregnancy will still have her powers at these levels.

HAND-TO-HAND FIGHTING > It is unknown if Lorna has had any formal training, but she is shown willing to fight up close with others. She even wraps a spoon around her knuckles once to punch someone. She has some degree of fighting, even if it's mostly self-taught.
